General Use Description: While the original form factor of this port was used exclusively as a video output (Mini-Displayport). Apple reappropriated the connection type for use as its "Thunderbolt" serial interface. It can be used to support up to 6 devices and includes serial peripheral connections, video and power as part of its implementation. Due to its advanced circuitry, there are adapters that can allow this single port to function as connection points for serial devices (Firewire), networking or video output. It provides direct high bandwidth external access to the PCI Express architecture available in modern laptops and desktop workstations.
